Autumn 1
Welcome to Nursery!
We hope that you had a fabulous Summer and that your child is now ready for all the exciting learning opportunities we will cover this term!
Our topic for the first half of the Autumn term is “All About Me!”
This is a wonderful opportunity for us to get to know all about the children. We will be learning about what we need to keep us healthy, such as exercise, food and sleep. The children will think about growing up, how we start as a baby and develop into toddlers, children, then eventually adults. We will encourage them to think about who they are, how they are special and unique, each with their own abilities, but also to accept and respect the uniqueness of others.
The children will learn about and complete activities about body parts, emotions and their senses – sight, hearing, smell, touch and taste. will be lots of opportunities for role-play, including a home corner and a baby clinic/shop.
Alongside all of this topic based learning, there will be many activities available whereby the children can build on basic skills such as speaking and listening, cutting, mark making and fine motor skills.
Once the children are settled, we will begin our whole group maths and phonics sessions, giving them the chance to take part in fun and exciting learning activities.
Story time is an important part of our day and the children will have a story during every session. We are a ‘Storytelling School’ and the children will learn stories throughout the year by heart. Please try to read to your child every day, it is so important for children to listen to and discuss stories at a young age.
Please see the curriculum information for further information about what we will be learning about.
We look forward to working closely with you to ensure the very best for your child as they begin their school life and especially their time in Nursery. Please do not hesitate to approach us with any questions you have.
